The Saga of Ryzom Studio Visit on Ten Ton Hammer (http://www.tentonhammer.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func=display&ceid=350)
Ryzom, like SWG, is a first-person sci-fi game with fantasy elements. It’s not a game set in our future, but rather in a whole other world. Thus, weapons can be slash / blunt / piercing melee implements, or technologically advanced weapons such as launchers. There are tradeoffs to using either of the two, but there’s another kind of “force” as well: magic. In fact, the dichotomy between technology and magic is embodied by the struggle between the mystically-oriented, nature-loving followers of Kama and the technologically-minded Karavan, who worship alien lifeforms that have endowed their followers with technical knowledge. While players may choose to avoid swearing allegiance to either side, players’ actions will govern how various NPCs will interact with them.
...
Every combat action (magic, ranged, or melee) and “prospection” action (i.e. looking for things to harvest) in Ryzom is available for customization. As you level your abilities through use, you’ll gain different building blocks to be used when building your custom actions. Everything’s on a sliding scale; if you want more range, you might have to settle for less damage, a longer delay, or higher costs to power. If you want to set up an area of effect attack, you can elect to have a longer delay between attacks or use a potion (which only dissipates when you use that action) as part of the process, for example.
