Is Guild Wars a MMORPG? on Grimwell (http://www.grimwell.com/?action=fullnews&id=301)

A very cut and dry description of Guild Wars is as follows:
Players interact in a shared hub space where they can communicate, trade, and form groups.
Players then leave the shared space for a personalized adventure instance that is created for the party and other players are not allowed inside that personalized instance. They may have one of their own but they can't join an existent one and disrupt play, or lend a hand.
This two point description also fits the basic nature of Diablo, where players hang out in a lobby and join others in private adventures. Diablo is actually more open than GW in that sense, because a player can start an instance and then leave the doors open for others to come in. Diablo is not a MMORPG by design intent, or sensible description, yet it matches Guild Wars in basic gameplay mechanics.

Then, GW is not a MMORPG then is it? It's a multiplayer game like Diablo? There is a problem with that too, because Diablo allows for an entirely offline play experience that GW does not. In GW, you are either online, or you aren't playing. There is interaction with a central server that Diablo does not allow. GW is clearly more of an online game than Diablo is, even with the shared core description.
